Michael – it’s somewhere around 85%-90% finished in draft form, but it’s been that way for a while, and will probably stay that way for the foreseeable future, the reason being that most of what’s in it has already been published on this site in one form or another. I started writing it before putting this site together, a lot of what was in it early on was presented here in some of the early essays, and as it’s developed the newer parts have been the basis for newer essays or blog entries. Completing the text therefore strikes me as something of a formality, and one of a relatively low priority since the ideas I originally wanted to communicate are already out there now.

For the sake of completeness I’ll probably get around to finishing it at some point, but if you’ve read everything on this site then you won’t be missing very much of consequence from the final version of the book. The ideas are the same, obviously – the major additions in the book are more extended analyses of what Crowley had to say on the various subjects, but the conclusions arrived at don’t change.

Well, they are found in this website *now*, but what about the future?

Websites are more ephemeral than books. This website could go off line, you could be hit by a truck, and that would be it.

While a book would stay in my bookshelf, no matter what happened to you or your wonderful blog.

I have a friend who recently complained to me about a research paper he was writing. The paper used a website as a source, and that website recently went offline, and stayed offline for several months.

For all I know, the website is still offline, and my friend is still simmering in his frustration.

Now if he would write his research paper about a book, he would have none of the troubles.

(Besides, books are nice, since it’s so easy to write comments on the margin, and to underline relevant sentences, which are damn difficult to do online.)

Don’t you have printers in Finland? Sheesh…

OK, OK, I get the picture. I’ve been working on a “collected essays” type deal which is pretty much at the “proofreading, indexing, writing an introduction, then done” stage. I’ll give it some extra attention over the next few months, just for you.
